Workshops for the Community
Genesis Centers’, in conjunction with Dillon
Marcus Executive Retreats, Green Tree Total Healthcare, and The Collingswood
Police Department, has created a workshop series to address some issues
facing many families and professionals. These workshops give support and
education to those finding they are struggling with different issues,
such as parenting adolescents or trying to lose weight.
Please see the list below of dates, topics, and times, and sign up by
calling us at 856-858-9314. The workshops are free due to a generous sponsorship
from The Tap Room and Grill on Crystal Lake Ave Haddon Township. All of
the workshops will be held at the Collingswood Community Center on Collings
Avenue. Refreshments will be served.

Adolescent Series

Who’s Your Kid
Often you hear parents say “Why did my kid do that?” Parents
may not realize that the response to their child’s behavior is a
reason and sometimes an excuse for kids to continue what they do. In this
workshop parents learn to look past their kid’s behavior first in
order to learn who they are and what’s important to them. Presenter:

You Can’t Capture a Greased Pig
When you raise a baby pig (a piglet), they play in the pen and if you
don’t add the proper posts to direct the activity of the piglet,
the little animal will wonder far and wide and be in danger of being hurt.
As in children and adolescents, if you don’t set the proper boundaries
in place, they will also wander and get into trouble. Find out the secrets
of making the necessary changes to the structure. Presenter: Kevin Gregan,

Why Harm Reduction is Effective
“Harm Reduction” is a paradigm now emerging in the field of
drug education. This approach recognizes that people always have and always
will use drugs, or have sold, and always will. Attempts to minimize the
potential hazards associated with drug use or drug dealing, rather than
the use or the behavior itself becomes the focus. Learn how harm reduction
works and how it can play a role in what you do. Presenter: Barry Bailey,

I Am In It For The Thrill
Thrill seeking behaviors range from riding that REALLY fast roller coaster
to hang gliding and parachuting out of a plane. When does that thrill
cross the line and become dangerous? Find out how to deal with your teen’s
risk taking behaviors that could be dangerous and find out why some kids

The Highly Sensitive Person
Highly sensitive adults and children are often the first to notice and
be affected by others moods. They often have vivid imaginations and are
attuned to the many sights, sounds, smells, and textures around them.
They are also more prone to over arousal and to be affected by a lack
of food, sleep, or down time. This workshop is a beginners introduction
to this topic based on upon the work of Elaine Aron. It includes a self-test,
explore cultural and career differences, and help us all to better appreciate

Strategic Planning for Families
Many of us put so much energy into our business lives; working on the
goals and vision for the business, developing relationships with co-workers
and clients and continually reviewing ourselves to get better. Wouldn’t
it be great if we applied these same powerful tools to our families? Imagine
that as a family we sat down and brainstormed our dreams. Imagine that
together we could work out our frustrations. Imagine that we discussed

What does Family really Mean
In the 50’s “The All American Family” meant, mother
cooking dinner for the family when everyone got home and father sitting
at the table and asking the children how their day was. Adolescents are
attracted to groups, whether positive or negative because they are seeking
approval, acceptance, and protection. Today, gangs have increasingly become
teenager’s family. Have you ever heard a teenager talk about their
friends, “they are my family, I would do anything for them.”
Learn the reason why they are flocking to their friends, rather than you.

Estrangement
Many of us find ourselves separated from folks we were once close to.
Sometimes we are the initiators and sometimes we are the recipients.
In either case we may be feeling anger, resentment and fear. This workshop
