Why Harm Reduction Is Effective
“Harm Reduction” is a paradigm now emerging in the field of drug education. This approach recognizes that people always have and always will use drugs, or have sold, and always will sell drugs, and therefore attempts to minimize the potential hazards associated with drug use or drug dealing, rather than the use or the behavior itself become the focus. Come learn how harm reduction works and how it can play a role in what you do. Presenter: Barry Bailey, MS

I Am In It For The Thrill
Thrill seeking behaviors range from riding that REALLY fast roller coaster to hang gliding and parachuting out of a plane. When does that thrill cross the line and become dangerous? Come find out how to deal with this behavior and why some kids take more risks than others. Presenter: Riley Keenan, BA, CADC Pending

Police Departments and Change

Some people, including police officers, do not want to admit that police officers are really social workers. Just take a second to see how many situations an officer comes in contact with. For some, change is hard, but the alternative of staying the same is not a better choice. One thing all police departments understand is that law enforcement and mental health both have issues that need to be addressed. The more police and mental health centers are connected the better the service that is given to the public. Come hear about the change that is taking place and how you can be a part in helping to create this change. Presenter: Tom Garrity, Collingswood Police Chief.

Trends in Adolescent Substance Abuse With A Mental Health Focus
Understanding the emotional drive in adolescents is essential. Missing the effective interaction, or if one only sees the behavioral level, the chances of missing the true person will take place. The behavior changes if the emotion changes. It is a harm reduction model. Behavior is more likely to stay in place and be productive if understanding rather than control is present. In this seminar we will have a panel of experienced clinicians to discuss this topic. Heather Gregan, MA, CADC Pending and a panel of experienced clinicians.
