> Student Assistance Program

The goal of Genesis school based Student Assistance Program, since 1984, has been to reduce the rate of onset and the usage of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs among students. This is achieved through intervention, education and support for students by teaching skills that assist them throughout life's struggles. Referrals are also made when needed, so that ongoing counseling may continue.

The Student Assistance Counselor becomes part of the school due to his/her physical presence to administrators, teachers and children alike. This presence makes a difference and that difference spreads, not only to the student in need, but also to the way a school designs and implements its policies concerning drugs and alcohol and how it unfolds those policies to the community.

By means of the Genesis Student Assistance Program, the assigned Student Assistance Counselors (SAC’s) are effective in providing the following services and activities within their school settings:

Intervention for identified students and their families.
Referral to various services for students and their families.
Liaison activities between the school, community and Genesis.
Support, caring & insight for students
living with substance abuse at home.
Education within the classrooms as well as group programs
that are designed and provided by SACs
