Genesis Centers Child and Adolescent
Mental Health Services

Genesis mental health therapist work to find the best type of therapy, or combination of modalities that will address an adolescent and child needs. All of our therapist have Masters level training and extensive experience working with families and their children.

We provide individual and family therapy for younger children. We encourage parent participation (and sometimes sibling participation) because problems with one family member impact the entire family. Additionally a child's problems are often intensified if parents or other family members are experiencing frustrations or conflicts within their own lives.Mental Health Adolescent Services

Mental Health Adolescent Services

Adolescence is a particular challenging stage for both teenagers and their parents It is natural for adolescents to want to spend more time with their friends as they explore their interest and answer questions such as Who am I

However our culture encourages teenagers to experiment with behaviors they often aren't developmentally prepared to handle. Most parents notice the warning signs that their teenagers are in trouble, but feel shut out by either silence or tension and arguments.

Our mental health therapist help, teenagers to find a healthy balance between their interests and peers, and the support from and responsibilities to their families. Therapy, address the range of teenager problems from extreme mood changes to self cutting; and the impact of unresolved trauma and loss.

Our approach seeks to create an emotionally comfortable environment where teenagers can feel safe to discuss their pressures and struggles and learn new ways to function more effectively in their lives. With family participation we can improve listening and communication styles, establish sensible rules, and create more lasting changes.

Mental Health Services for Children (ages 4 - 12)

Younger children are brought to therapy by their parents and care takers for a broad range of concerns and problem behaviors. These problems can vary from hyperactivity and difficulties with school performance, to the most alarming concerns with threats of harm to self and others. Depression in children can often include more anger and irritability, as well as the more recognizable symptoms of despair and sadness.

Genesis therapist are, trained to help parents sort out the underlying causes of their child's problems and develop a treatment plan that builds upon the child's strengths. We help parents to recognize what is within the normal range for their child's current developmental stage, and which behaviors would call for additional interventions.
Because younger children are often unwilling or able to express themselves verbally, we offer play therapy. Through drawing, role playing and games children can use their imaginations to more effectively resolve their anger and past losses, and improve their skills at relating with others more successfully.

Child and Adolescent Programs

Our Adolescent Programs at Genesis are designed to help parents and their adolescents who are between the ages of 13-18 find new options for dealing with problematic behaviors.

Our program is designed to help young people access unmet needs for stability, unconditional love, and feelings of self-worth that will ultimately help them let go of problematic behaviors and lead them to make healthier life choices.

We take a family-centered approach and require the participation of a responsible adult in the adolescent’s treatment in order to reinforce the positive changes made in treatment.

We provide IOP and OP services depending upon the needs of the adolescent. Below is a description of our program.

Family Substance Abuse Treatment.

Meets Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:45-8:45 pm
Family treatment has three components: parent skills and support group, adolescent substance abuse education and a family process group.
For part of the evening, adolescents and parents participate in separate groups, simultaneously.

Parents take part in the parent skills and support group while the adolescents participate in a didactic substance education group.
Parents and adolescents then come together for the second part of the evening and have the opportunity to process issues relevant to improving their relationship. One on one family sessions may be included and will be scheduled as needed.

Emotion Skills, Nutrition & Wellness.

Meets Mondays from 4:30-6:30 pm
Emotion Skills Training is designed to assist the adolescent in building awareness of the underlying emotional needs connected with their problematic behaviors. It teaches emotional processing and regulation skills including anger management strategies and appropriate self-expression.

Nutrition and Wellness teach adolescents the importance of a balanced diet and exercise routine in the maintenance of their emotional and physical well-being.

Every adolescent is assigned a primary counselor and works one on one with that counselor for a minimum of one hour per week.
